Celebrating Summit Earthworks’ EMA of BC Remediation and Restoration Award for the Deroche Creek Project

Summit Earthworks (Summit) was honoured by being awarded the EMA of BC’s Remediation and Restoration award at the EMA Awards Gala on June 27th, 2023. This award is a testament to the outstanding efforts and dedication of Summit and its partners. The award recognizes the exemplary in-stream work on the Deroche Creek project, which involved sediment removal, bank stabilization and habitat restoration work.

At the request of Leq’á:mel First Nation and the BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, Summit Earthworks responded immediately to repair damage caused to Deroche Creek caused by the 2021 atmospheric river event.

Summit Staff: Thank you to the exceptional Summit team who worked tirelessly on the Deroche Creek project. Their commitment to excellence and tireless work ethic played a pivotal role in securing this well-deserved recognition. Their efforts resulted in a project delivered under budget and ahead of schedule while improving the environment and mitigating future flood events.

First Nation Partners: Summit Earthworks would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Rick McKamey and Stephen McGlenn from Leq’á:mel First Nation’s Lands and Natural Resources Department. Their support and involvement were vital to the environmental and habitat restoration of Deroche Creek. Thank you also to our joint venture partner Leq’á:mel Development Limited Partnership (LDLP) for their continued collaboration and support.

On-Site Collaborators: The success of the Deroche Creek project would not have been possible without the expertise and collaboration of Summit’s partners from Northwest Hydraulic Consultants and Kerr Wood Leidal.

Congratulations to the other winners and nominees who also presented fantastic projects, and to the EMA of BC for another great gala celebrating with industry colleagues.
